Shelter Island

Together with architect Lisa Ekle of e.g. Projects, a complete gut renovation of an abandoned board and batten beach house from 1971 on the secluded Long Island retreat of Shelter Island. The floorplan was left intact, but new framing, insulation, windows, doors, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, and a completely rebuilt fireplace and chimney was required. A yellow cement tile floor and a bright, colorful mosaic of 2x4 tiles from Heath define the kitchen and bar area with custom lighting from ceramic artist Shino Takeda. We lined the living rooms walls with cedar to evoke a seamless transition between inside and outside where a completely new cedar exterior was also installed. A custom cherry bomb chandelier from Lindsey Adelman, and custom Josef Frank window treatments add an elegant, glamourous touch to the otherwise very Scandinavian modern beach vibes of the house. We installed elevated wrap around decks almost doubling the living and entertaining areas during the summer.
